Hirsch: A Legacy of Trust and Innovation

Hirsch Electronics Corporation was founded in 1981 by Steven B. Hirsch, an entrepreneur who invented and patented the iconic, high-security ScramblePad technology.

Over the years, Hirsch established itself as the leading high-security access control solution for some of the world’s most demanding customers, including multiple U.S. federal government agencies and departments. Hirsch became synonymous with government-grade security, and true to its technology roots, played a key role in shaping high-security standards for the U.S. government.

In 2009, Hirsch Electronics merged with SCM Microsystems to form Identiv (then Identive Group), integrating Hirsch’s high-security physical access control with SCM’s government-grade cybersecurity — technology that continues to secure the vast majority of desktops and servers across the U.S. Department of Defense.

In 2024, Hirsch merged with Vitaprotech, a leading European security provider. Like Hirsch, Vitaprotech protects some of the most security-sensitive sites, including the French National Assembly, the national railway, and other critical infrastructure across France and Europe. Together, the two companies create the most comprehensive enterprise-scale security platform, securing every aspect of a site — from the perimeter to doors, entry points, and individual rooms. The combined portfolio spans perimeter protection, video surveillance and analytics, access control, security management systems, credentials, readers, and cybersecurity.

Under the leadership of CEO Mark Allen, Hirsch is focused on advancing its technology leadership in high-security, enterprise-scale systems that integrate and manage all aspects of physical security and safety worldwide.
